2014 Kindergarten Stakes Final Field Confirmed

April 9th, 2014

A talented field of 11 two-year-olds have accepted a position in the final field of the 2014 Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick this weekend, on day 1 of the inaugural The Championships.

Arguably the biggest winner in Wednesday morning’s Kindergarten Stakes barrier draw, New Zealand import Kuro will leave from the ideal gate 1 this Saturday.

Kuro exploded onto the racing scene with an impressive near-two length victory in the Reelmen Australia Plate (1000m) on debut on March 13th, but was unable to match the late pace of his talented rivals in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) last time out, finishing sixth.

Having initially penned the Group 1 ATC Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) on Saturday has the major target for the Denman colt, trainer John O’Shea is confident of a return to the winner’s circle for Kuro in the Kindergarten Stakes.

Trainer Gerald Ryan is offered twice the chance of success in the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes, having accepted positions in the final field for stable mates Klammer and Washington Heights.

Yet to finish outside the places in four race starts so far, Klammer (barrier 9) followed up a strong run for third in the Adaptra Handicap (1000m) amongst classy competition on debut with an impressive win in the Lightning Ridge Plate (1000m) on February 23rd.

Finishing third in both the Listed Black Opal Stakes (1200m) and Pago Pago Stakes most recently, Ryan is understandably confident in the Snitzel colt’s chances this weekend.

Confirmed to make his racing debut in the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes, Washington Heights claimed a tough Rosehill barrier trial on March 31st and will leave from the reasonable barrier 7 this weekend.

Lining up as the most experienced runner in the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes final field, I Am Snippety will have to overcome the wide barrier 11 if to add a third race victory in her seventh career start.

Debuting with a strong run for second in the TAB Rewards Plate F (1000m) on December 11th, I Am Snippety broke through for her maiden race win in the SITA Australian Plate (1000m) on January 7th, and will carry winning form into the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes after claiming State Wide Sheds Boot Handicap (1100m) last time out in Wellington.

Trainer Gai Waterhouse will also launch a two pronged attack on the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes, having accepted positions for Donelle and Echo Gal.

Unlucky to finish fourth behind talented two-year-old Bring Me The Maid in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes (1200m) last time out, Donelle is offered the perfect chance to claim a maiden race this weekend, having been allocated the ideal barrier 4.

Claiming the TAB Rewards Plate F ahead of I Am Snippety on debut, Echo Gal was disappointing when tenth behind Unencumbered in the Magic Millions 2.y.o. Classic (1200m) last time out, but will be offered good chance of success after returning to the paddock for three months and allocated the central barrier 6.

Bart and James Cummings-trained Hallowed Crown (barrier 5) will be aiming for two wins from as many starts in the 2014 Kindergarten Stakes, and will be joined by Zizumba (barrier 10), Kaepernick (barrier 8), Redoutable Heart (barrier 2) and Loved Up (barrier 3).
