Talented colt Sooboog has contested just one competitive start since debuting to racing but is sure to lay a great and competitive account for himself when returning in Saturday’s 2015 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick.
Jumping from the gates well in the Listed Thoroughbred Breeders Plate (1000m) on October 4th, jockey James McDonald settled the son of Snitzel off the pace of the race’s early leaders who set a noticeable tempo away from the barriers and approaching the bend.
Receiving an ideal run in transit, Sooboog steadily spooled-up and charged forward; finishing a close second to subsequent Group 1 Golden Slipper champion and dominant colt Vancouver.
Having reportedly taken well to his time away from racing and adding both size and maturity, co-trainer Michael Hawkes said the team has been thrilled with the form and class displayed by the two-year-old in the lead-up to his racing return and are confident of a competitive performance in the 2015 Kindergarten Stakes.
“Sooboog ran second to Vancouver at the start of the season and that colt goes on to win the Golden Slipper,” Hawkes told The Daily Telegraphy.
“But we can’t worry about that now, we are just happy to have Sooboog back and racing.
“He’s in good shape, his barrier trials have been great, he’s drawn a nice gate and we can’t fault the horse.”
The Kindergarten Stakes has figured as a key indicator of classy two-year-olds in recent seasons, most notably via the Bart and James Cummings-trained Hallowed Crown in 2014, who has since claimed two impressive victories at the highest level of racing.
A total of nine runners have been confirmed in the 2015 Kindergarten Stakes final field, including the likes of Godolphin runner Furnaces and debutants Meteora Miss and Regatta Rebel.
