Nine two-year-olds remain poised to line up for the 2016 Group 3 Kindergarten Stakes (1100m) at Royal Randwick on Saturday; figuring as a particularly interesting race from a betting standpoint and offering several opportunities to place a winning wager.
El Divino is yet to be tested at the class but remains outright $2.50 favourite in 2016 Kindergarten Stakes betting markets with Ladbrokes.com.au ahead of Astern ($2.70) and Lionhearted ($6.50).
Will El Divino justify favouritism and win the 2016 Kindergarten Stakes or will one of his talented rivals cause an upset?
Godolphin colt Astern has more than stamped himself as one to watch through his short racing career so far and is positioned well in the Kindergarten Stakes to return to winning form. Delivering a number of notable runners a comfortable defeat in the Surfs Meets Turf Plate (1000m) on debut on December 5th, the Medaglia D’oro colt returned this time for another resounding win in the Group 2 Silver Slipper (1100m), but failed to overcome a slow start in the Group 1 Golden Slipper (1200m) a fortnight ago. James McDonald retains the ride on Astern in the Kindergarten Stakes, who is undoubtedly the field’s most proven performer.
El Divino ($2.50)
El Divino has only appeared on course once competitively, but his sheer dominance in that instance appears likely to translate into a healthy and successful racing career. Jumping from the gates well in the More Than Just Winning Maiden (1000m) at Gosford on March 17th, the half-brother to champion mare Winx immediately raced to the front and never appeared in doubt; hitting the line five lengths in the clear of his closest rivals. Allocated barrier 5, El Divino will be partnered by Blake Shinn in the Kindergarten Stakes.
Lionhearted has been a strong and largely consistent performer through his short racing career so far and represents good value for money at current Kindergarten Stakes odds. Clearly needing a run when seventh in the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude C&G (1100m) on debut on February 13th, the Fastnet Rock colt progressed to second in the Group 2 Skyline Stakes (1200m) before placing a credible fourth in the Group 2 Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) last time out. Undoubtedly boosted by the addition of leading hoop Hugh Bowman, Lionhearted may need luck in transit from barrier 8.
